The year was 1889 and in the City of Naples, New York the Ontario Knife Company was born. Taking it's name from the county in which it began the Ontario Knife Company sold it's locally made wares from a pushcart that traveled the area. Now located in Franklinville, New York most of it's products are still manufactured right in that factory.
Ontario Knife Company is probably best known as a military knife supplier and we are proud to offer them here. This month we are three very different types of knives from them and all proudly made here in the good old USA.
First up is the RAT-3:
The blade is made of 1095 High Carbon Steel. A tough steel that holds an edge and is easy to sharpen. It is carbon and carbon will rust so make sure to keep it clean and add a thin coat of oil to the blade.
This is a full tang, rugged and shorter bushcraft or EDC Knife with a 3 3/4" black powder coated blade and a 7 3/4" overall length. It features a comfortable canvas micarta handle, Lanyard hole and black nylon belt sheath.
The Rat-3 has a plain edge with 57-59 HRC hardness, a 0.125" thickness and a Full Flat Taper blade grind.
Next on the list is the Spec Plus Alpha Kukri:
The Kukri originated in Nepal and India with the Gurkhas. This Machete has a distinctive curve to it's blade. The Kukri is considered a basic utility knife used for everything from chopping and cutting to a weapon. Many regiments and units within the Indian Army use the Kukri and is a standard weapon of all Gurkha military regiments.
The Spec Plus Alpha Kukri is a black powder coated 1075 high carbon steel with a 55-57HRC hardness. It features a 8 1/2" blade with a flat grind and a 13 1/2" overall length with a blade thickness of 0.19". It has a synthetic rubber handle with lanyard hole and sheath. This is also carbon steel so it requires a little attention of keeping it clean and oiled.
Last on our list is the OKC Cerberus:
The OKC Cerberus is a great all around field knife it is made with D2 tool steel which is a high carbon, high chromium steel that provides a very hard and durable blade but at the same time makes it harder to sharpen. It is a little easier on the rust but should still be taken care of. This knife features a full-tang D2 tool steel blade with a 57-59 HRC hardness and black oxide coating, an ergonomic G10 handle, and nylon sheath. It has an almost 5" blade length, an overall length of 10 1/4" and a 0.188" blade thickness. It features a Full Flat Taper with a Secondary Flat Bevel grind, lanyard hole and comes with a nylon sheath.
